As you have likely heard, the government has taken the undemocratic step of rushing to pass Bill-28, which would prevent some 55,000 CUPE education workers from going on strike tomorrow.
This is an attack on all workers and a dangerous signal of things that might come in the future. As a sign of solidarity, the 8,000 non-post secondary education workers represented by OPSEU/SEFPO plan to walk off the job tomorrow. OPSEU Local 415 fully supports their action.
What can OPSEU Local 415 College Faculty do to support Education Workers?
Here are some ways you can support CUPE education workers:
- Attend a protest
- Phone an MPP, or visit their office
- Share information via social media
- Talk to your students/colleagues/neighbours about what’s happening
Tomorrow, from 10-12:30, Local 415 stewards will be joining the picket lines outside of the offices of Lisa MacLeod at 250B Greenbank Road. Then at 1:30, we will join the rally outside of Merrilee Fullerton’s office at 240 Michael Cowpland Drive.
Please see the press release here from OPSEU/SEFPO.
Finally, if you are impacted by school closures tomorrow, please contact your manager to make alternate arrangements, such as working remotely. If you have any questions, please reach out to us at comms@locallines.org
