As you may know, yesterday marked the fourth and final day of conciliation. Both sides have agreed to mediation. Mediation has been scheduled for December 6-8. Note, the scheduled mediation is non-binding, that is, we have not agreed to binding-arbitration. We remain hopeful that Mediator William Kaplan, who is familiar with our sector and the challenges we face, will assist the parties in reaching a fairly negotiated collective agreement.
This means that there will be no labour escalation before mediation concludes—no requests for no-board reports, no strike, no imposition of terms, etc.
Basically, the CEC returned to the table headstrong with all but one of the damaging concessions proposed. We must continue to apply pressure with continued solidarity from each of our members.
