Following the College’s decision to impose terms and conditions, attached please find the most recent communication from our Bargaining Team. In it, you will find some details around the meaning of this action and how our work will proceed. More communications will be shared soon about specific actions.

In short, there is no good reason why our existing Collective Agreement should not have remained in place until the parties were able to negotiate a new one.

At our college, we often hear college managers and executives refer to the union as a “partner”. The negotiation process placed both sides as genuine partners in determining labour relations at the colleges; however, the imposition of terms removes any pretense of partnership. While today’s conditions may seem nonthreatening, it is the unilateral imposition of terms that is concerning. The CEC can impose any other terms and conditions at will.

Please note, you should take no action now. Continue your regular work as is. You will receive further communications about any recommended actions for December 18.

In solidarity,
