A general election will be held for all stewards and officers of OPSEU/SEFPO Local 415. The election is open to new candidates as well as incumbent members.
The term of office is from May 29, 2026 to May 25, 2028.
Steward Nomination and Election Process:
Stewards are nominated and elected by members of their campus location, and must be OPSEU/SEFPO members in good standing (Pembroke and Woodroffe only, given the Perth closure). Full-Time/Partial-Load (FT/PL) or Part-Time/Sessional (PT/SL) employment status will need to be identified on the nomination form. The steward nomination form is linked here. Please note, you will need to download the form to be able to identify your campus and employment status, as well as fill in all necessary details.
Completed nomination forms must be sent to comms@locallines.org by 12 noon on Monday, April 13, 2026.
If an equal or smaller number of stewards are nominated per campus than allotted, stewards will be acclaimed. The acclaimed or elected stewards constitute the Local Executive Committee (LEC). If a steward election is needed, you will receive another notice for an April steward election.
The allotted number of stewards is determined by the number of union members on each campus. For the upcoming term of office, the number of vacancies are as follows:
- Pembroke: 7
- Woodroffe: 82
Officer Nomination and Election Process:
The election of officers: (President, 1st Vice-President, 2nd Vice-President, additional 2nd Vice-President/Lead Steward [representing PT/SL faculty], Lead Steward, Secretary and Treasurer) happens in May after stewards are elected.* To be eligible for nomination as an officer, you must first be elected as a steward.
* The nomination period for Stewards has been organized based on deadlines related to OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Divisional meetings to enable the most inclusive participation possible. The nomination period for Officers occurs later in May to align with the end of the current officers’ terms and concludes with the Election General Membership Meeting (EGMM) on May 21, 2026.
Good Reasons to Run for Steward:
1. No experience is necessary: your learning will be supported by experienced members on the Local Executive, to whom you can refer any concerns.
2. Being a steward is not a major time commitment: minimally, one 2-hour meeting per month and availability to answer or refer your colleagues’ questions. Beyond that, your level of involvement is up to you.
3. Stewards are actively involved in Local decision-making: stewards shape the political path for our Local.
4. Being a steward is informative: at our monthly meetings, you will hear from other stewards what is going on in other parts of the college.
5. As a steward, you will assist in building a strong voice to advocate for faculty.
Thank you for participating in this important democratic process.
