On May 9, Dean Julie Beauchamp sent an email to employees in the Hairstyling and Esthetics programs announcing to them that the suspension of these programs was being recommended to the Board of Governors in June.

We question this recommendation to suspend. These programs are valuable, needed, and regularly waitlisted. Here is an opinion piece I wrote, published in yesterday’s Ottawa Citizen, outlining some serious concerns. Professor of Hairstyling, Tara Ettinger, and Ontario Professional Hairstylists Association President, Tanya Hill, both spoke on CFRA today, and appeared in a CTV piece on the matter with Sylvie Canonico, Esthetician program coordinator. The links are here and here respectively.

What can you do to help?

  • Sign this petition, calling on the Board of Governors to vote against these program closures; and
  • Show your support by wearing black and attending the Board of Governors meeting on June 3 at 4:00 p.m. in Room T102 ABC (or online – register via MyAC when the invitation is sent).

Our colleagues in Hairstyling and Esthetics need our solidarity. Let’s raise our voices loudly and show our support.

In solidarity,

Annette Bouzi
President, OPSEU Local 415
