Yesterday’s Town Hall may have left many of you feeling unsettled and concerned. Please know that your Local is here. Our commitment to you, to protecting our rights, and to ensuring the Collective Agreement (CA) is upheld remains steadfast.

Our priority remains focused on membership wellbeing and job security. You know that stewards and officers are active in supporting members, asking tough questions, demanding fair treatment, and responding to member questions online or via drop-ins.

Here’s what we know so far:

Job Security and the Collective Agreement
While the college has made a public announcement, including circumventing its own policies, we want to assure you that we will not allow any misinterpretation of the CA, particularly concerning:

  • The College Employment Stability Committee (CESC),
  • Layoffs and involuntary transfers, and
  • The Joint Employment Stability Reserve Fund (JESRF).

Enhanced Severance Measures

  • Arbitrator Kaplan will be reviewing enhanced severance measures for academic staff during mediation, and we will update members as information is shared.

Advocating for Better Funding

  • Together with Local 416, we are intensifying advocacy efforts at the provincial level to address the chronic underfunding of Ontario’s colleges.  If you haven’t signed the petition yet, please do so at https://opseu.org/fundourcolleges/

During times of uncertainty, we encourage you to reach out with your questions, share department information, and seek support. Our door is always open via email at COMMS@locallines.org, a quick call at 613-727-4723 x7716, or an in-person chat in the office in A207a.

Please remember, we are stronger together.

In solidarity,

Your Local 415 Leadership Team

Judy Puritt, First Vice-President
Martin Lee, Second Vice-President
Tara Ettinger, Lead Steward
