A Contract faculty Day of Action took place on February 11,2016 where contract faculty, full-time faculty members and students on every college and university campus were invited to stand together with signs and leaflets supporting fairness for contract faculty.
This event was held because Contract faculty are teaching a growing number of students across the province. At colleges and universities, the issue are the same: Contract faculty are struggling to make a living, with few benefits and little job security. It’s not fair.
Here’s an update regarding the success of the event:
Pam Johnson, one of the organizers wrote to say:
Just a quick note to say that the day of action was a very good. While we did not make the mainstream media, the response on social media and the involvement of faculty and students was impressive. For a first try, I feel like we did very well and gave this issue a boost and some momentum for future activity.I will send a more detailed report next week. Thanks everyone!
